I lose my train of thought a lot and it takes me longer than most to gather up the pieces of what I want to say, yet I'm always eager to get my point across. ADD with deep thoughts.

I haven’t been on Tumblr in maybe about 6 months or more?  I think I just got sick and tired of seeing the same types of posts.  Maybe it’s my fault for following the wrong people.  Maybe I just grew out of it all.  Maybe that’s what Pinterest is for if I want to downsize my ego by looking at gorgeous girls with perfect hair and make up.  I miss when I first started tumblr because that’s when I actually blogged about whatever the fuck I wanted to say.  So I’m just going to try that again.  I’ll do my best to resist reblogging those funny pictures, or awesome videos.  That’s what my Like button is for right?  In the end, I really don’t give a shit about who or how many people follow me because it’s not like they’re the ones going to look back on my posts and reminisce about certain things I wrote about. Nope, this is all for me.

Battle Scars— Lupe ft. Guy Sebastian

mackryan:

This song, which I wrote in April, is a response to what I have observed and experienced, and is also an act of personal accountability. It was not easy to write, and I struggled with how I, as a straight male, could genuinely speak upon this issue.

Initially, I tried writing from the perspective of a gay, bullied kid, but after getting some feedback, I felt it wasn’t my story to tell. What I do know, and where I wrote from, is my own perspective growing up in a culture where “that’s gay” was commonplace, with a huge stigma on those who identified and were perceived as gay.

Growing up in the Catholic Church, I saw first-hand how easily religion became a platform for hate and prejudice. Those who “believed” were excused from their own judgments, bypassing the stark issue of basic civil rights.

But, more influential to me as a kid than the church was hip hop, my cultural foundation that influenced my worldview.

Unfortunately, intolerance of the gay community in hip hop is widespread. The best rappers will use homophobic language on albums that critics rave about, making hip hop and homophobia inextricably linked. We have sidestepped the issue entirely, become numb to the language that we use, and are increasingly blinded to our own prejudice.

The consequence and impact of what we say, and the culture of shame and abuse it creates, has very real, sometimes deadly impacts upon LGBTQ young people looking for acceptance and belonging.

As somebody that believes in equal rights for all humans, you can only watch poison regurgitated for so long.

I am not saying that intolerance is exclusive to hip hop. Hip hop culture is a part of American culture, and America can be scared, fearful, and prejudiced against its own. My intent is not to scrutinize or single out hip hop. It happens to be the culture that has profoundly shaped me, and the one I feel most accountable to.

Hip hop is influential to young people, and frames the mindset of the generation that will decide how inclusive and accepting we are.

More than anything, I am aware of how comfortable I (and many other straight people) have become in staying silent on this issue. If we choose to not speak on an issue of injustice out of fear, or how our peers might perceive us, we’re part of the problem. We know the truth, and vainly refuse to uphold it, when people’s lives are caught in the balance.

In the last couple of months, amazing things have happened that show progress and accountability to ensure that the LGBTQ community has the same rights and respect as everyone else. THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES came out in support of gay marriage.  Jay-Z, arguably the biggest rapper in the world, then followed.  Finally, Frank Ocean felt comfortable enough with himself to share his sexuality in his music and came out last week.  That is courage.

This song is a humble submission to help bring this conversation to the surface, so that we can reflect on the language we use, and how powerful it can be. Rethinking, and understanding the gravity of how we communicate with each other. Change happens when dialogue happens. When we confront our prejudice and are honest with ourselves, there is room for growth, and there is room for justice.

After I wrote this song, I played it for a friend of mine who happened to be involved with the Music for Marriage Equality campaign, uniting musicians to help Washington state become the very first to approve marriage equality by a public vote in November.

My hope is that my personal testimony can help in some way to not only advance the dialogue and approve Referendum 74, but also to help shape a culture of belonging in which ALL people are equal.

- Macklemore

“If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” – Lilla Watson

*Also, huge shout out to the incredibly talented Mary Lambert. Such a blessing to work with her on this song.

I was approached by The Seattle Times to write an op-ed guest column commenting on the recent gun violence in Seattle. So I wrote a rap and they liked it and posted the lyrics here (w/ video) in the online Sunday edition (June 10th). People asked for a studio version so I quickly recorded the verses over this Sabzi beat from last year and the homie Justo came through with the clutch 90-minute mix down. Thank you for listening.

Change the World (remix)— Eric Clapton ft. Nas

This theory says that there is more behind Nickelodeon’s Rugrats besides being a cute show for little kids to watch. In fact, some people are saying that the show has this whole psychological meaning behind it centering around Angelica having a psychotic break at the age of 3 after having too many traumatic accidents happen in her family at such a young age.

  • All of the rugrats are a figment of Angelica’s imagination. Now that’s not so horrible by itself, but then we learn why Angelica made them up.
  • Chuckie died with his mother in childbirth. This is why his dad is always so worried about him in the show.
  • Tommy was stillborn, making his dad have some kind of break and sit in the basement to make toys for the son he was supposed to have.
  • The DeVilles had an abortion. Angelica never found out if the baby was supposed to be a boy or a girl so she decided to make it twins. Then, she gave them matching names and personas because there probably would have been only one child if there was no abortion.
  • The reason behind these delusions have been blamed on Angelica’s nonexistent relationship with her mother and her manipulative one with her father. Thus, Angelica had no one to turn to when she needed help dealing with the babies’ deaths and resorted to making up the lives they should have lived.

In All Grown Up, Angelica is a bipolar schizophrenic addicted to narcotics and heroin because they help her keep her delusions alive. At this point, we learn that Angelica’s biological mom died from a heroin overdose and Angelica’s disease because she’s a crack baby. Her real mom’s name was Cynthia, hence her doll’s name. The woman from “Rugrats” who was Angelica’s mother is really her gold-digging step-mom who Angelica idolized.

When “All Grown Up” was canceled, Angelica died of an overdose just like her mother.

Dil is the only baby who isn’t fictional. However, Angelica never accepted him as being real and accidentally hit him too hard while trying to make him go away once, resulting in brain damage. This is why he’s such an odd child in “All Grown Up.”

Suzie was actually Angelica’s friend. The theory says that she grew up to become a psychologist and joined the Nickelodeon team to invent the “Rugrats” TV show, finally explaining the origin of the theory.

COME ON. That is such bullshit.  The person (or “some people” as it claims) who thought of such theory sounds like a wanna-be conspiracy theorist who thinks there’s always some negative underlying meaning or message behind everything. OR they’re pathetic tumblr attention whores who make up creative fanciful lies that sadly succeed in fooling naive readers.  Over 20,000 notes on this post and I’m willing to bet that at least half of those people either found this psycho theory probable, believed it, or didn’t even question it.  I didn’t even need to google or research “Rugrats theory” to know this is stupid.

Allow me further explain in depth to the dipshits that tend to believe everything they read or hear in hopes that I am able to shatter or shit on any bit of possibility they think this stupid Psycho Schizo Angelica Theory may be even plausible.

*AHEM*…

Infantile amnesia…recall of one’s earliest memories can only go as far back as 3 or 4 years of age.  Crucial developed brain structures, sense of self, and structured knowledge is used for memory reference and is required in order to embed memories.  Lack of all this attributes to infantile amnesia.  So with that being said, having these “traumatic” events effect her to the point of being delusional, she would have to have one hell of a developed brain for a three year old in order to retain that amount of memory at that age.  Also, she would have to understand mature concepts, such as what death and even abortion mean in order to invoke such traumatic emotions for it to become detrimental to her…which is highly unlikely.

And for goodness sake! She wouldn’t even have had an emotional attachment at her age to these babies since they supposedly died before or right after they were born.  Nor would any intelligent adult try to make a 3 year old girl comprehend the full extent of how emotionally heartbreaking and dark these kinds of situations maintain, especially if she isn’t even related to these babies!

If there’s anything that’s reasonable enough to even explain how the Rugrats can be a figment of Angelica’s imagination, I’d say it would just strictly be attributed to her family or a mental illness.  Yes, if they were abusive or neglecting then creating “imaginary friends” could make sense as a coping mechanism.  And yes, a possibility of being schizophrenic as an infant could especially cause her to embody her imaginary Rugrats and blur the lines between reality and the delusions in her head…but the fact that someone theorized that she resorted to making them up as the result of her inability to deal with these complex, hard to understand, stillborn, abortion, death type of events is inconceivable for a freakin’ 3 year old.

But whatever, that’s my stance on this absurd claim of Rugrats having some psychotic hidden meaning or based off some far-fetched “true story”.  Stating that I (2 weeks prematurely) have a bachelors degree in Psychology from UW (in which was focused more towards child, cognitive, and developmental psych), is just me trying to add some respectable credibility to my argument for whoever actually reads this…although I think my rationalization is just common fuckin’ sense that doesn’t require much formal background knowledge in psychology.  I could go on and on about this and how annoying fabricated information is so easily believed and spread.  I mean shit! Technology has freakin 10 year olds roaming these blogs, so quit feeding Tumblr bullshit or else you’re just gonna make our younger generation naive and stupid!..(okay, I’m exaggerating but that’s besides the point lol). It seems that I may have taken this stupid post about Rugrats a little too seriously but it’s only because…
